Outreach Ministries
Besides our ongoing Campus Ministry outreach, we are engaged with the needs of the world around us in other ways.
Refugee Ministry
St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church is partnering with other parishes in our deanery, working together for the Home Again Program of Journey’s End Refugee Services. The Home Again Program is an opportunity for both communities to work together to collect items needed for an apartment for an upcoming refugee family. Refugee families arrive with little to no resources for establishing homes during their first few months of resettlement. Journey's End Refugee Services relies heavily on donations from partnerships such as these to provide these families with essential home furnishings, such as tables, lighting, and other items. After long and arduous journeys to the United States, a warm and cozy apartment brings a sense of security to families that have lost and left so much.
Food Security Ministries
We have an ongoing relationship with the neighborhood Food Pantry housed at University Presbyterian Church. They work with the WNY Food Bank to meet the needs of the surrounding neighborhood, including students living in the University Heights area. We collect nonperishable foodstuffs and monetary donations for the food pantry, and deliver them at least once a month.
We also work with St. Paul's Cathedral's Garden of Love project, providing lunch and fellowship for the homeless population of downtown Buffalo. Once a month on a Saturday, we gather at St. Andrew's to make sandwiches and assemble other foodstuffs for the lunches. The following Sunday, we help to serve the lunches, and meet the people whom they benefit.
Arts Community
Through our relationship with the University Heights Art Association, we help to provide opportunities for young and old alike to be enriched through participation in the arts. Projects and workshops are held on our site from time to time.
Brent House
Several community groups hold meetings and events in Brent House, which we own and operate. These include Spectrum Transgender Group, Stonewall Democrats of WNY, and the Queen City Worker's Center.
